Our
Story

NOLA Repurposed is the flagship initiative of 1735, created to bring New Orleans Municipal Code Sections 150-77 and 150-78 to life by helping residents understand, research, and redeem adjudicated and blighted properties. Although the program was delayed due to the newness of the law, city staffing limitations, COVID-19, and Hurricane Ida—which shuttered 1735 from August 2021 to May 2022—the mission continued. With two grants totaling $10,000 from the New Orleans City Council (2023–2024), 1735 rebuilt and officially relaunched NOLA Repurposed to reduce blight and return properties to commerce.

Beginning January 15, 2026, NOLA Repurposed will place educational yard signs at researched adjudicated properties across the city. Each sign will display REDEEMADJUDICATEDPROPERTY.COM, a QR code, and sponsorship from the City of New Orleans’ Innovative Thinker Grant. The website will direct visitors—owners, potential redeemers, or community members—to clear, accessible information on redemption and allow them to sign up for updates and research notifications. The site is purely informational, and donations or purchases support this public education work.

NOLA Repurposed sustains itself through three mission-aligned revenue streams. Property Research provides affordable, in-depth analysis—marketed mainly to real estate companies and government agencies so that disadvantaged residents can receive assistance at little to no cost. Property Acquisition allows 1735 to begin acquiring adjudicated properties under new state law, convert them into nonprofit assets, and use sales or leases to support the long-term goal of returning all adjudicated properties to commerce by 2035. The annual RAP Book offers a step-by-step guide to redeeming adjudicated property, including researched property lists and updated laws, with each year’s edition sold at a low cost.

Throughout 2026, NOLA Repurposed will expand community outreach, partner with local organizations, participate in neighborhood events, and promote the RAP Book to increase public awareness. The program is operated by Ariana Newman and intern Lydia, whose role will transition into full-time as properties are researched, acquired, and prepared for redevelopment.

NOLA Repurposed is committed to reducing blight, restoring purpose to neglected land, and making adjudicated property accessible to residents. This is how we work toward a New Orleans where every blighted property is returned to commerce by 2035.
